Garden State Brickface

design 3

The customer was looking for an exterior that would parallel the look of his father’s 1910 Italian Villa.

Sample photographs were supplied so that we could match the texture, color and design of the villa. He wanted a many facetted-detailed exterior to uplift the neighborhood. He owns four other buildings on the same block and wanted to establish a look that he could carry on those buildings at a later time. The two-block area had fallen on hard times and all the buildings were in despair.

Masonry-textured stucco to match the sample of the villa was chosen with a multi-colored stoneface design to be sculpted into the cement around all the windows, doors and display windows. Creating sculpted stone arches, keystones, quoines, and sills attained an esthetic richness. The “Instant-Crete” Cementation material and iron oxide pigment were cyclo-blended into the cement to create a deep, rich design.

When replacing the frames for the glass and doorways we discovered that the frames had dry rot and the walls had deteriorated to such an extent that all new beams, headers and frames had to be installed. They had to be specially milled to the exact same specifications as the original material. Duronich doors and windows were installed in the commercial space to accent the colors of the stone and stucco finish.

The finishing touch was the sculpted letter “F” cut into the cement front which is a signature on all the buildings owned by the customer.

An ordinary looking storefront was transformed into a 19th Century landmark.
